Survey Results in Detail

In the survey, people were asked to rate each activity in terms of its importance to the Tarrangower Community.  Below are the individual activities in each of the topics, in the order in which they were rated - 1. was seen as the most important, 2. as the next most important and so on.

Environment and Sustainability

  1. Better weed management in public areas, roadsides and empty blocks

  2. Improve communication with Parks Victoria and other government bodies regarding local land management

  3. Explore all options to minimise household waste and investigate options for local recycling practices  

  4. Improve water security: work with catchment and water authorities to minimise water usage and use waste water .          

  5. Strengthen community support for local Landcare initiatives.     

  6. Greening Maldon CBD to provide shade and cool areas   

  7. Engage the community in adoption of a holistic approach to sustainability                     

  8. Make Maldon a more 'sustainable' town and promote it as such in tourist brochures

  9. Restore and develop the Long Gully area (just south of the Maldon township) with cycling/walking trails and signage  

  10. Establish a 'food waste centre' in Maldon. Initially for cafe and hotel food waste management       

  11. Change building regulations to encourage 'green' housing      

  12. Set a Tarrangower emission reduction target                            

  13. Install a drinking fountain in Maldon CBD

Our Heritage, Our Infrastructure

  1. Protect environmental, landscape and Indigenous heritage throughout Tarrangower

  2. Survey the number and frequency of large trucks travelling through Maldon

  3. Enhance the appearance and historical aspects of the main entry points to Maldon

  4. Improve maintenance of walking tracks

  5. Encourage availability of low cost, rental housing; housing for people across their life stages

  6. Develop signage for visitors - showcasing heritage, way-finding, and scenic walks

  7. Undertake a pedestrian survey and make improvements to footpaths and crossings

  8. Upgrade sporting fields, courts and facilities

  9. Review parking needs in Maldon CBD

  10. Review speed limits in Maldon - particularly in Lowther Street and High Street

  11. Undertake improvements to the playground

  12. Consider development of a dog park

Our Community

  1. Improve access to medical services and provide a choice of GPs

  2. Help community groups work together to support and recruit members/volunteers and coordinate their efforts

  3. Consider the employment and housing needs of young families in Tarrangower to make our population more diverse

  4. Reduce levels of social isolation

  5. Better understand the impact of weekenders - on housing availability, community cohesion and the economy

  6. Sporting clubs to explore opportunities for shared facilities, services and governance

  7. Encourage cycling for transport; develop safe bicycle lanes within Maldon, cycle paths between Maldon and Newstead and bicycle parking

  8. Improve physical access to Maldon swimming pool

  9. Develop off-road recreational cycling opportunities

  10. Investigate community use of the school's outdoor fitness equipment

Local Economy

  1. Promote 'buy local' so that essential retail services are not lost

  2. Strengthen links between farmers and town residents to increase community cohesion and support during hard times

  3. Retain planning provisions that prevent the sub-division of farms

  4. Bendigo Regional Tourism, Council's Tourism Officer and Maldon Inc to work together to improve visitation across the four seasons

  5. Increase the reach and service of the Visitor Centre in Maldon e.g. '10 things to do in Maldon'

  6. Attract digital businesses to Maldon to reduce commuting and encourage local employment

  7. Conduct exit interviews with closing businesses

  8. Encourage collaboration between event organisers, and consider an Events Officer in Maldon

  9. A mentoring scheme for businesses 

  10. Build an electric vehicle charging station 

  11. Consider a 'Welcome Pack' for potential new businesses

  12. Explore options for free WiFi in Maldon town centre

Arts and Culture

  1. Work with Dja Dja Wurrung people to honour and celebrate their culture, history and language

  2. Provide opportunities for artists in the community to showcase and sell their work

  3. Coordinate cultural and creative events for the community, and encourage visitation

  4. Grow Tarrangower's profile as a centre of arts excellence by supporting organisers of arts and cultural events

  5. Encourage participation in the arts across all ages through 'come and try' days
